Phil Bickford
Phil Bickford Lands with Phillies
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 9:33 PM
Bickford signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Wednesday.
Analysis: After being released by the Cubs last Wednesday, Bickford will now give some depth to the Phillies' farm system. The 29-year-old righty is off to a great start in the minors this year with a 2.43 ERA and 0.72 WHIP, and if he continues to impress with his new organization, he could earn a spot in Philadelphia's bullpen.
Bryce Harper
Bryce Harper Four hits, homer in win
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 6:47 PM
Harper went 4-for-6 with a solo home run, a double and three total runs scored in Wednesday's 13-0 win over San Francisco.
Analysis: Harper extended the Phillies' lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning with an opposite-field shot off Justin Verlander, his 10th homer of the year and one of four hits on the day. It was a breakout performance from Harper, who'd been mired in an extended slump prior to Wednesday, going just 5-for-39 (.128) with one homer in his previous 13 contests. Overall, Harper is slashing .259/.370/.449 with 35 RBI, 36 runs scored and eight stolen bases across 289 plate appearances this season.

Jesus Luzardo Rebounds vs. Giants
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 6:35 PM
Luzardo (8-5) earned the win Wednesday against the Giants, allowing three hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out seven.
Analysis: It was a much-needed bounce-back effort from Luzardo, after he gave up six runs (five earned) in just two innings against the Reds in his last start. The southpaw had struggled to a 9.49 ERA in seven outings (30.1 innings) prior to Wednesday. Luzardo will finish an up-and-down first half of the season with a 4.14 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 122:36 K:BB across 19 starts (104.1 innings).
Max Kepler
Max Kepler Leaves game with bruised shin
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 5:20 PM
Kepler exited Wednesday's game against the Giants with a bruised right shin, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Kepler singled in the top of the eighth inning, but Johan Rojas pinch-ran for Kepler two batters later. Prior to his exit, Kepler went 1-for-3 at the plate with one RBI. He's slashing .213/.307/.378 with 10 home runs, 31 RBI, 34 runs scored and a 34:63 BB:K across 305 plate appearances this season. Kepler's injury doesn't sound serious, and the Phillies have an off day Thursday ahead of Friday's series opener with the Padres in San Diego.
Orion Kerkering
Orion Kerkering Moves past apparent injury
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 1:31 PM
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Kerkering was unavailable to pitch in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Giants due to soreness but is available Wednesday, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Kerkering might have gotten a save chance had he been available Tuesday. Instead, the Phillies turned to Jordan Romano, who gave up three runs in the ninth inning to take a blown save and loss. The source of Kerkering's soreness isn't known, but he will evidently be ready Wednesday, if needed. Kerkering has notched two saves for the Phillies this season.
J.T. Realmuto
J.T. Realmuto Resting Tuesday
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 5:45 PM
Realmuto isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: After going 1-for-4 win Monday's series opener, Realmuto will step out of the starting nine Tuesday. Rafael Marchan will fill in as Philadelphia's catcher and bat eighth.
Cristopher Sanchez
Cristopher Sanchez Shines again in no-decision
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 2:30 AM
Sanchez allowed one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over seven innings in a no-decision against San Francisco on Monday.
Analysis: Sanchez gave up a second-inning run but otherwise kept the Giants off the scoreboard. The left-hander racked up an impressive 17 whiffs and eight punchouts but got just one one run of support from the Phillies' offense. Sanchez had to settle for a no-decision, but he recorded his seventh straight quality start. During that stretch, the 28-year-old has posted a 1.69 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 46:7 K:BB over 48 innings.
Nabil Crismatt

The Phillies re-signed Crismatt to a minor-league contract Monday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Analysis: Crismatt opted out of his minor-league pact with the Phillies last week, but he has returned to the organization on a new contract. The 30-year-old righty holds a 3.81 ERA and 54:17 K:BB over 80.1 innings covering 15 starts in 2025 at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and will give Philadelphia some swingman depth.
Aaron Nola
Aaron Nola Completes bullpen session Sunday
Sun, Jul 6, 2025, 5:29 PM
Nola (ankle, rib) threw a bullpen session prior to Sunday's series finale against the Reds, per MLB.com.
Analysis: Nola came away with no issues and is expected to continue his throwing progression through the All-Star break in mid-July. The veteran right-hander is rehabbing from a sprained right ankle and subsequent stress fracture in his right rib, and he'll have been on the injured list for over two months by the time play resumes following the Midsummer Classic. Fantasy managers shouldn't anticipate having Nola available until sometime in early-to-mid August at this point, as the hurler will likely need to make a handful of minor-league rehab starts before rejoining Philadelphia's rotation.
Bryson Stott
Bryson Stott Smacks clutch home run
Sun, Jul 6, 2025, 3:37 PM
Stott went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer and a pair of walks in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Reds.
Analysis: Stott's homer, his sixth of the season, proved to be the decisive blow in the win -- the second baseman drove a two-strike pitch from Tony Santillan 405 feet over the right-field fence to put the Phillies ahead in the eighth inning. The 27-year-old Stott had been slumping coming into the day, going just 2-for-20 over his previous six contests. Overall, he's slashing .238/.310/.340 with 37 runs scored, 37 RBI and 13 stolen bases across 327 plate appearances this year.
Zack Wheeler
Zack Wheeler One-hits Cincinnati
Sun, Jul 6, 2025, 3:19 PM
Wheeler (9-3) earned the win Sunday in a complete game against the Reds, allowing one run on one hit. He struck out 12.
Analysis: It was a dominant performance from Wheeler in his fifth career complete game. The right-hander allowed just one hit, an Austin Hays homer to lead off the fifth inning. Wheeler hasn't allowed an earned run in his last four starts (28 innings) while logging 38 strikeouts in that span. His ERA is down to 2.17 through 18 starts (116 innings) with a stellar 0.84 WHIP and 148 strikeouts. Wheeler is currently scheduled to face the Padres on the road next week in what'll likely be his final outing before the All-Star break.
Ranger Suarez
Ranger Suarez Strong form in no-decision
Sat, Jul 5, 2025, 10:16 PM
Suarez allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings Saturday against the Reds. He didn't factor in the decision.
Analysis: Suarez was unable to cover seven-plus frames for a sixth consecutive start, but he limited Cincinnati to a Will Benson solo homer before being pulled at 80 pitches. Manager Rob Thomsen said the left-hander was on a pitch count of 85 pitches due to his recent heavy workload, per the Associated Press. Suarez surrendered seven runs during his first start of the campaign but has given up just 10 earned runs in his past 11 outings. A matchup with the Padres likely awaits for his final appearance before the All-Star break next weekend.
Kyle Schwarber
Kyle Schwarber Runs homer total up to 27
Sat, Jul 5, 2025, 8:20 PM
Schwarber went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Reds.
Analysis: That's now 27 homers on the season for the 32-year-old star slugger, who sits third in the National League behind only Shohei Ohtani and Eugenio Suarez in this area. Schwarber has now recorded at least one hit in 11 of his last 16 games as well. During that span, he's slashing a potent .276/.400/.569 with five long balls, two doubles, nine RBI and three stolen bases covering 70 plate appearances.
Edmundo Sosa
Edmundo Sosa Keeps mashing left-handed pitching
Sat, Jul 5, 2025, 8:12 PM
Sosa went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Reds.
Analysis: Sosa belted his third homer of the campaign, also drawing the start at second base in favor the lefty-hitting Bryson Stott versus southpaw Nick Lodolo. As long as Philadelphia's infield stays healthy, the righty-hitting Sosa should continue to be used sparingly in a weak-side platoon role at the keystone. The 29-year-old utility man has been very effective in that role, hitting .361 (12-for-61) with three homers, three doubles and 10 RBI against left-handed pitching this season.
Trea Turner
Trea Turner Continues collecting hits
Sat, Jul 5, 2025, 8:02 PM
Turner went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Reds.
Analysis: The 32-year-old star shortstop tallied multiple hits for the third time in his past four games, also extending his hitting streak to five outings. Turner was batting just .245 and slugging .316 as of April 26, but he's found a groove over the past two months or so. Across his last 62 contests, Turner is hitting .322 (84-for-261) with 10 home runs, 14 doubles, two triples, 47 runs scored and 16 stolen bases as Philadelphia's everyday leadoff man.
Nick Castellanos
Nick Castellanos Homers in loss
Fri, Jul 4, 2025, 3:54 PM
Castellanos went 1-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 9-6 loss to the Reds.
Analysis: Castellanos put the Phillies up 3-0 early with a two-run homer in the first inning and later added an RBI on a forceout in the third. Over his past 10 games, the 33-year-old has hit safely seven times with three home runs, eight RBI and three runs scored. For the season, he's slashing .278/.321/.450 with 11 long balls, 49 RBI, 39 runs and two steals across 358 plate appearances.
Jesus Luzardo
Jesus Luzardo Struggles early in loss
Fri, Jul 4, 2025, 3:32 PM
Luzardo (7-5) took the loss against the Reds on Friday, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts over two innings.
Analysis: Luzardo was spotted a 3-0 lead in the first inning but unraveled in the third, failing to record an out while ultimately being charged with five runs in the frame. The southpaw had allowed just seven total earned runs over his previous four starts after reportedly correcting a pitch-tipping issue, but he's now surrendered at least four earned runs in four of his past seven outings. On the year, he owns a 4.44 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 115:35 K:BB across 97.1 innings and will try to rebound in a road matchup with the Giants next week.
Taijuan Walker
Taijuan Walker Rejoining Philly rotation
Fri, Jul 4, 2025, 12:24 PM
Walker will re-enter the Phillies' starting rotation Tuesday against the Giants, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The veteran right-hander worked as a starter for Philly early in the season but has spent the past month pitching out of the bullpen, and he's been decent in both roles with a 3.64 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 46:22 K:BB across 54.1 innings overall. Walker would likely only be able to cover about four innings while filling the spot vacated by Mick Abel, who was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, and he isn't guaranteed to stick in the rotation after the All-Star break.
Seth Johnson
Seth Johnson Called up Friday
Fri, Jul 4, 2025, 10:23 AM
The Phillies recalled Johnson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The right-hander served as the 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader against the Padres and delivered two scoreless frames. Johnson has allowed one run in four innings between his two big-league appearances this season.
Mick Abel
Mick Abel Demoted to Triple-A
Fri, Jul 4, 2025, 10:13 AM
The Phillies optioned Abel to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Abel surrendered five runs over 1.2 frames during the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Padres and posted a 6.63 ERA over 19 innings since entering Philadelphia's rotation in early June. The Phillies could fill their open rotation spot with a bullpen game next week.
